AUGEREAU Pierre Francois - Document Signed 1800 a discharge certificate for Citizen Lagrenache
Pierre Francois AUGEREAU, Duc de Castiglione (1757-1816)
Document Signed (“Augereau”), a discharge certificate for Citizen Henry Lagrenache, giving details of his service.
1 page large folio with red wax seal, on paper headed 17th Demi Brigade de Ligne, signed by Augereau along the left margin and countersigned at the bottom by eight members of the Council of Administration, attractively framed with a dark red mount in a simple gilt frame, Utrecht, 1 Messidor an 8 [20 juin 1800].
Lagrenache, born in Grenada when it was still a French colony, declared that he had risen from Sergeant to Sub-Lieutenant before entering the gendarmerie, and was later sent to serve as Sub-Lieutenant in the Landes with the 1st battalion, which was later incorporated into the 17th demi brigade de ligne. Having served satisfactorily during his time with the brigade, the document asserts his discharge in accordance with the law of the 4 pluviose [24 January].
The document has been docketed on the verso, and a photocopy of the verso is attached to the back of the frame, stating that had received his pay in its entirety.
Some slight fading, but overall a most attractive document.
