BYRON Anna Isabel Noel - AL 1838 to Messrs. Coutts

  • £295.00

Anne Isabel Noel BYRON (1792-1860)

Autograph Letter in the third person to the bankers Messrs. Coutts enquiring about a bank balance of behalf of Miss Selina Doyle.

1 page small 8vo, 4 Green Street, 21 November 1838.

Lady Noel Byron presents her compliments to Messrs Coutts, and is requested by Miss Selina Doyle to enquire of them how her balance now stands, and also whether a draft for Fifty Pounds drawn at Athens by Miss Doyle has yet been paid.”

Selina Doyle was probably the closest of Lady Byron’s confidantes, and had supporter her at the time of her separation from Lord Byron. She was also one of the small circle of friends who kept close watch on Lady Byron’s daughter, Ada (later Ada Lovelace), often to the young woman’s irritation.

The letter has been slightly trimmed at the right margin, with no loss of text, and has evidently been tipped into an album at some point in the past.
