1 page small 4to in French, Paris, 22 March 1812.
Trans: “I have the pleasure to inform you that the request I made to the Minister of War to allow you to be admitted to the Invalides has been authorized. Marshal Count Serurier, Governor of the Invalides will receive you. You will therefore kindly communicate with him and present this letter of introduction.
I am pleased, Monsieur, to have been able to assist in the success of your request . . .”
The Invalides, today famous as the resting place of Napoleon, is in fact a large complex, which included a home for invalid soldiers.
The recipient of the letter was most likely a soldier, wounded and disabled in combat.
The letter has been cut down, and has a small, unobtrusive tear at the top left corner.
